I'm suspicious of the COVID data for Los Angeles County. Last year the county public health director was saying bad COVID is coming back, and threatening to impose another mask mandate. Then in a private video the directors of a couple big county hospitals said there was just about nobody in their hospitals due to COVID. That video got leaked to the public, and those directors did not back down. The County public health director had to shut up and forget about imposting another mask mandate. Now, she again is saying more unvaxed are being hospitalized for COVID, as a way to justify the push for new COVID boosters. But as you pointed out that data is suspect.

When boosters were first started there was some California state and L.A. county data collected during a big COVID wave that showed the boosted did better. But then that wave subsided, and the boosted started doing worse with COVID than those with just the primary 2 shots in state data. That data was so embarrassing that the L.A. County public health director then stopped reporting data on the 3 groups - unvaxed, vaxed, and boosted. She combined the vaxed and boosted into one group, and I think the CDC did the same. There were some California news articles with "experts" trying out all kinds of guesses to try and explain away the fact that the boosted were doing worse than the vaxed. But you were supposed to get boosted anyway.
