A new creator platform is attempting something rare in today’s internet landscape: real human reach, real dialogue, and no invisible algorithm deciding who gets heard.
I've been reading Substack with gritted teeth for years now, seeing through their phony "voice for freedom" reputation. They never cared about delivering a neutral platform for all voices. They just cynically saw an opportunity to cash in on the voices that the other platforms censored. They'd give the illusion of impartiality only due to the prevailing context of brute censorship. I'd love to see this fraud fall.
However. iOS and Google Play are the antithesis of a digital commons. That doesn't mean that Pickax automatically is as well, but if an app must be downloaded to use it and that app is only available through two sources that are functioning at the top of the censorship participants; two sources that have been herding us into this dystopian digital ecosystem.
Pickax has a high mountain to climb and I'm not about to lace my boots for it, especially if it requires an app to read and if the only places to get that app is via Apple and Google.
Are you sure "Digital Commons" fits this plaform ?
I am not trolling I sincerely love your contributions and greatly admire your work. Had it not been so I would have found that title so misleading I would have read the whole as deliberately illintentioned.
Thus my genuine question; are there things beyond avoiding censorship and AI/bots that this platform offers and fits the notion of Digital Commons ?
If not, this would be the first time in years I have a critical comment so let me wrap it in a million thanks for all you've done!

I’m looking forward to joining Pickax, exploring what’s there already, and sharing some of our work examining the economic and cultural fault lines many people feel but struggle to name. It feels like an interesting early space to build something thoughtful.
This platform sounds great, and well worth supporting. I think it is crucial that we stop trying to 'tip the scales', or letting others tip the scales for us, but instead let people decide what to read, think and share free of interference. Also, so much of the operating system of (anti)social media is detrimental to real dialogue, learning and the cultivation of basic human kindness. What a gift to have a platform where we don't have to fight against the algorithm's efforts to make us angry, narrow-minded and hateful of our neighbours. Thank you for sharing it Dr Kory, and for all that you do.

do you have the address URL for me to register? or do i have to go to google playstore? i'm using windows 7 so i hope they cater for my situation. i use a variety of browsers as they each have different features. also, my internet usage is closer to a mac truck than a harley davidson -- so i have many tabs open at once!

As it is, *all* of my Substack articles have been deleted across *all* searches on nearly *all* hide engines for a couple of years now, so anyone who searches for MAA, one of my articles, or a term or phrase I've coined (e.g., "philanthropath" or "Mistakes Were NOT Made") will not see a single article from my Substack.
