He is an Amish farmer that is sort of THE person in the regenerative agriculture space (I seem to remember that he actually coined the term, but I might be remembering that wrong). His father used to distribute all the pesticides in the region and John was a licensed applicator by the time he was 16. Then they saw some interesting things on their farm that made John wake up to the problems and he started researching.
He is one of the most knowledgable people that I have heard speak about different nutrients (including micro-nutrients) and their effect on plants (and people by extension).
